How to Apply
Choose your home university. Take the next step into RRE.
You’ll need a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent and the required level of English. Ancient-language requirements and application deadlines vary between Copenhagen, Lund and Oslo.
What you’ll need
A relevant academic background
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, such as theology, religious studies, history, ancient languages or classical archaeology. Each university sets its own requirements for subjects, credits and grades.
English for postgraduate study
You’ll study, discuss and write in English. Check your chosen university’s accepted qualifications and whether you need to provide an English-language test.
Language preparation
You do not need to know all the programme’s ancient languages before starting. Entry requirements differ between universities, so check the route that fits your background below.
1. Choose your home university
Your home university is where you enrol and receive your degree. You will learn from teachers across the partnership, but your application is assessed by the university you apply to, following its requirements, deadlines and application process.

UNIVERSITY OF OSLO
Prior ancient-language study is not required. Check the requirements for your relevant bachelor’s specialisation and grades.
1 December 2026: non-EU/EEA/Swiss route. 1 March 2027: EU/EEA/Swiss route. Norwegian residents and Nordic citizens normally use the domestic route, with a 15 April deadline; early-result exceptions apply.

UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN
Prior language proficiency is required, normally equivalent to 15 ECTS in Greek, Latin, Hebrew or Arabic. An alternative two-language route is also listed.
Deadline: 15 January 2027 for applicants outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. 1 March 2027 for Danish, EU/EEA and Swiss applicants.
2. Prepare your application
Start with your academic transcript, degree certificate – or the university’s required evidence of expected completion – and documentation of your English qualifications. Depending on your university, you may also need a CV, motivation statement, course descriptions, evidence of ancient-language study and identification. Follow the university’s checklist for your application.
Citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland do not pay tuition fees at the three participating universities. Applicants with other citizenships should check the fees and available exemptions at their chosen university.
You will still need to budget for accommodation, living expenses and travel associated with the programme’s compact seminars. The seminars are always optional. Check with your home university about any available financial support.
3. Find your application route
