Student Experience
In the classroom, online, and on site.
Two years · Full-time · 120 ECTS · Taught in English
In-person & online learning
RRE is for people who want to read ancient texts closely, ask how religious traditions took shape, and pursue those questions in good company.
You bring your own interests to a small international group, where different backgrounds and interpretations become part of the discussion. Your home university is your base, while teaching connects you with scholars and students across Copenhagen, Lund and Oslo. Lectures and seminars take place in university classrooms and through Zoom, depending on the course.
You’ll also have access to your home university’s student intranet, library and online research resources, supporting your reading, language work and independent research between classes.

Compact seminars and travel
Compact seminars bring students and teachers together for several days of classes, discussion and presentations. They also provide time to get to know your fellow students beyond the classroom.
The opening seminar takes place in Rome, connecting the study of ancient religion with its physical settings. Other seminars take place in the Nordic countries, with occasional additional visits connected to particular courses. Locations and arrangements vary between cohorts.
These intensive meetings combine classes, presentations and discussions, sometimes with visits to relevant sites. They also give you time together beyond the classroom: sharing meals, exploring a city and getting to know the people you study with throughout the two years.

Travel costs & funding
Travel and accommodation are estimated at approximately €3,500 over the two-year programme. Funding is sought to help cover these costs, but support is not guaranteed.

An international student community
RRE has welcomed students from more than 53 countries. Different academic, cultural, religious and non-religious backgrounds bring fresh perspectives to the texts and questions you study together.
You’ll get to know your cohort through online discussions and shared seminars, with conversations continuing over meals and between site visits. Across three universities, you build connections through the experience of studying together.
